1. Information We Collect

When you use TruckRest, we collect the following information:

• Account information: Email address and display name when you create an account.
• Location data: When you use the "Find me" feature or add a parking spot, we access your device location with your permission.
• User contributions: Parking spots you add, status updates you post, and votes you cast.
• Payment information: If you subscribe to PRO, Stripe (our payment processor) collects your payment details. We do not store your full card number - we only receive a Stripe customer ID and subscription status.
• Usage data: How you interact with the app to improve our service.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

• Provide and improve the TruckRest service
• Show you relevant parking spots near your location
• Calculate and display your reputation score
• Aggregate status updates to show live availability
• Process PRO subscription payments via Stripe
• Send important service notifications (not marketing)
• For PRO users: send notifications about saved spot status changes

Legal basis for processing: We process your data under the following lawful bases:

• Contract: To provide you with the TruckRest service you signed up for
• Consent: For optional features such as location tracking (which you can disable)
• Legitimate interest: To improve and secure the service

3. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only in the following cases:

• Public contributions: Spots you add and status updates are visible to other users (your email is never shown).
• Service providers: We use Firebase (Google) for authentication and data storage, Stripe for payment processing, and Mapbox for route planning (PRO feature).
• Payment processor: Stripe receives your payment details to process PRO subscriptions. Stripe's privacy policy applies to this data: stripe.com/privacy
• Legal requirements: If required by law or to protect our rights.

4. International Data Transfers

Your data may be transferred to and processed in the United States through our service providers (Firebase/Google and Stripe). These providers maintain appropriate safeguards for international data transfers, including Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the UK Information Commissioner's Office.

5. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal data within 30 days. Anonymised contributions (spots, updates) may be retained to maintain service quality.

Billing records: For PRO subscribers, we retain billing event records (subscription status, not payment details) for 7 years as required for accounting and tax purposes.

6. Your Rights

Under GDPR and UK data protection law, you have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate data
• Delete your account and associated data
• Export your data in a portable format
• Object to certain processing activities

To exercise these rights, use the "Delete Account" option in your profile or contact us.

7. Cookies & Local Storage

We use essential cookies and local storage for authentication and app functionality. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
